Custom Marine Gear
Underwater Marine Gear
Your propulsion equipment represents the single most important system in your boat. It is very important that the right system be chosen and installed. Choosing the right system requires looking at many different variables including the boat's hull type, displacement, waterline length, maximum hull speed, intended use, etc. By using scientific formulas and charts, the correct engine, transmission, shaft and propeller can be specified and matched as a unit.
Below is a sample list of what we manufacture on a frequent basis for propulsion systems:
- Stuffing Boxes
- Bearings
- Shafting
- Packing and Gaskets Supplies
- Couplings
- Stern Tubes
- Propellers
Marine and Domestic Manufacturing
LIFE™ has a full service machine shop so when it comes time to make a quality part that is not mass-produced somewhere in Asia then we can help! LIFE™ has a number of semi-custom items that are made to fit your order. These are items such as plaques, ship's crests, and ships bells.
Below is a sample of other items we cast on a frequent basis:
- Deck Plates

Propellers
Since 1909 Lunenburg Foundry has been manufacturing propellers for the marine industry. Initially these propellers were made for use with our own "Atlantic" marine engines. Since that time we have continually updated and expanded this line, the result being that today we feel confident in offering our LIFE™ propellers as some of the finest available anywhere.
Every effort is made to ensure that each propeller is manufactured to the highest possible standards. This quality begins with the selection of the best metals for use in their construction. LIFE™ propellers are available in Manganese Bronze and Nickel Bronze Aluminum. Both Manganese Bronze and Nickel Bronze Aluminum are well known for their strength, durability and ease of repair. Other alloys are available for special applications.
For crew-boat applications where speed and high power are combined. The relatively large blade area allows for maximum thrust in restricted diameter applications. The Acadian combines extraordinary strength with top performance. Its rugged design helps minimize the possibility of damage. The Acadian provides maximum speed with minimum cavitation problems. Special cupped edges are available for improved performance, so please ask when ordering. A number of popular sizes are available.
Bluenose Line
Speed and Performance
Like her namesake, the Bluenose is the “highliner” of our propeller lines. These Premium propellers are built for speed. Bluenose Propellers are available in many common sizes and pitches up to 50 inches in diameter in two, three or four blades. Special cupped edges and finishes are available.
Bluenose Max Line
Performance and Adaptability
Our newest line of propellers has been developed in response to the commercial and fishing industry demands for additional ruggedness, speed, performance, and strength. This design has a larger hun and more robust design (thicker blade) to accommodate larger shaft diameters. Designed to withstand operation in severe conditions, the Bluenose Max line of propellers focus on performance.
Grand Banks Line
Towing Power and Work Boat
Our Popular Grand Banks Propellers are designed for maximum towing performance. Designed for powering workboats, trawlers, cruisers, and displacement boats of all types. This propeller provides top propulsion efficiency along with excellent reverse thrust, aiding vessels maneuverability. Thick sections give added strength for the most demanding applications. Grand Banks Propellers are available in both three and four blades, diameters from 12 to 64 inches and a broad selection of pitches.
Acadian Line
Speed and High Power
For crew-boat applications where speed and high power are combined. The relatively large blade area allows for maximum thrust in restricted diameter applications. The Acadian combines extraordinary strength with top performance. Its rugged design should minimize the possibility of damage. The Acadian provides maximum speed with minimum cavitation problems. Special cupped edges are available for improved performance.
Propeller Reconditioning
Complete propeller repair and reconditioning is something that LIFE™ specializes in. For the most part, they don’t teach how to make a propeller in school. This is truly a hands-on learned skill that our experts have extensive experience in. Some of the services we offer are blade straightening, pitch adjustment, tip repairs, resurfacing and static and dynamic balancing for propellers up to 100 inches.
Quality Metallurgy
Many of the items that we produce at the foundry have been refined over 125 years of production. They are crafted with skill that is learned by doing, not in a classroom. The skills that our employees carry with them are skills that are unique to the particular trade they apply. We take pride in creating products that we know are full of quality material and quality efforts, and we are sure our customers will be happy with the product they ultimately receive. Some of the broad services we specialize in are:
- Castings for machinery, shipbuilding and marine equipment
- Decorative castings & collectibles
- Custom Plaques & Signs
- Specialized in small run castings from either a drawing or pattern.
