Strait Explorer

Superport Marine Services is a valued customer of Lunenburg Shipyard. In April, 2008 the company brought a new conversion project to Lunenburg with a tight completion schedule.
The R/V Strait Explorer is an ice-classed vessel configured for ocean bottom coring, ROV tasking and shallow seismic; as well as, multibeam surveying. The vessel is equipped with two heavy "A" Frames, each serviced by a deck crane.
Lunenburg Shipyard drydocked the 1100 ton vessel and began to implement the conversion plan to the underwater hull. This work included surface preparation and painting of the underwater hull, fabrication and installation of a new bow thruster tunnel and installation of a 36” diameter moon pool inserted near the vessel’s keel. This work was completed on budget and on schedule and the vessel was launched after only 4 weeks.
