Picton Castle
After three circumnavigations the good Barque "Picton Castle" is still sailing strong. Traditionally rigged to time honoured standards, she has sailed through some tough seas.
As the brainchild of her captain and principal owner, Capt. Dan Morland, "Picton Castle" incorporates at the same time the simplicity of the past with the green and sustainable virtues of the future.
Originally build as a trawler and used primarily as a cargo freighter, during the mid '90s "Picton Castle" came to Lunenburg Shipyard to be converted to a sailing vessel. The old Cargo ship arrangements were cut away, new decks, bulkheads and a clipper bow were added and the masts and rigging added. Deckhouses were modified and accommodations were installed below.
In the past few years, hundreds of tall ship sail trainees have graced her decks. She has even been the star of her own TV shows, "Tall ship Chronicles" and "Survivor Pirates."
