Presidents Message

Lunenburg Foundry has been working on the waterfront since 1891. While we are officially registered as “Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Limited” most folks from Cape Cod to Labrador simply refer to us as “The Foundry.” Our trademark LIFE represents the fact that the company has evolved, almost organically, over its “century of service” to encompass an amazingly wide variety of products and services.

The spirit of LIFE includes a spirit of innovation. For over a century Lunenburg Foundry has been helping its customers by solving problems and creating solutions in novel and cost-effective ways. Over the past year we have successfully implemented a corporate wide quality management system to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. This allows our organization to continuously improve in a consistent and systematic manner. This is in essence, a manifestation of the company's motto "Progress with Stability."

From the age of sail, Lunenburg Foundry has learned to adapt to change. Wooden ship construction has mostly given way to steel, aluminum and fiberglass. The once familiar, “put, put, put…” sound of the Atlantic Engine has given way to the currently common hum of the diesel. Our business is now “high-tech”, requiring a myriad of skills that range from laminating to electronics. With safety a major preoccupation, we have fostered a formalized program of learning and upgrading of skills for our company to stay competitive in the global market.

The waterfront is a demanding environment. Lunenburg Foundry’s marine products are made rugged and reliable. They are in fact “built for the sea.” Nova Scotia mariners have known for ages that their boats and equipment had to be strong and seaworthy to withstand the rigors of the North Atlantic; their lives depended on it. Over the years the reputation of Lunenburg Foundry became legendary and lead to the marketing slogan, “Count on Lunenburg Foundry,”
